A lot of people who move to Atlanta don’t consider the magnificence of the city. In some cases even people who have lived in the city for a while do not know how special it is. Many of the city’s sights go unseen and a lot of its history is ignored. Well, there’s no time like now to discover all that Atlanta has to offer. If you have been in the city you may be surprised at what you have been missing and if you are a new resident you will be glad you made the move.
History
Georgia has a lot of history from before the arrival of people from Europe and after. Native Americans from the Creek and the Cherokee tribes made their homes in the area before the European settlers arrived. Unfortunately, there are not many historic sights because both tribes were removed from the area. By the 1860’s Atlanta had the nickname of “Gate City” because of all the commerce that went through the city. That was especially true because of the rail road system that was built in the area earlier in the century.
Several Civil War battles took place in the area, mainly because the city was a hub for military supplies distribution. Much of the old Atlanta was burnt in 1917 during the Great Atlanta fire. That is the reason the city mostly looks like a newer city as opposed to other cities in the south. There are different historical tours a person can take, along with museums and reenactments in all of Georgia.
